The Hotel market in Russia and CIS countries promises growth in 2017.
According to a recent research by JLL, 9,600 branded hotel rooms are going to appear in Russia and CIS over the year, the largest part of them (6.700) will be opened in Russian cities, then in Kazakhstan (1.200) as well as in Georgia (626 rooms).
Of all Russian cities, the biggest amount of new hotel rooms will open in Moscow (3,400). Several leading hotel chains, that did not open anything in Russia last years, decided to return on the market with their new projects: Hyatt will open new hotel properties in Moscow and Vladivostok, Lotte will open a property in St. Petersburg and Tulip in Moscow Region.
The increase in interest in domestic tourism, the strengthening of national currency and increase in national events is the main reason for the recovery of the local hotel market.
Hotel Market of Moscow and Saint Petersburg has stabilized.
As JLL research says, yield per room in Moscow and St. Petersburg hotels of all categories has finally increased. For the hotel industry, 2016 has become rather successful: almost in all Moscow hotels were fully loaded and in Saint Petersburg the highest average tariff in rubles was recorded for the last 5 years.
The continuous growth of travel demand inside the country has improved the hotel performance in the Moscow region significantly, not only due to the demand from tourists but also due to the increase in demand from event organisers, who previously preferred overseas destinations. As the result, the average annual occupancy rate in these hotels from 30%-50% more than in 2015.

Marriott plans to open 12 new hotels in Russia
The Marriot hotel chain plans to open an additional 12 hotels in Russia, due to the importance of the Russia market for the hotel sector, even though the country has recently experienced some difficulties.
